Alicante Airport (EI Alter) and it is the 6th busiest airport based on the number of passengers in Spain. It is also serves as the airport for Region o Murcia and Province of Alicante. And in the event you do get bit also try not to panic. Meanwhile, for those who prefer a smaller hotel, again looking at a map of Tenerife it’s in the south of the island, the Hotel Arona Gran in Los Cristianos is recommended for a luxury holiday, with the hotel which is in Los Cristianos having sea views.

One of the best things about the Arona is the staff – polite, efficient, knowledgable about the local area and friendly without being overbearing – and that can make the difference between a good holiday and a great one. But it doesn’t necessarily add up to luxury. Overall previous guests have been impressed and it compares well with hotels in other destinations.

Luxury hotels and resorts are different from other hotels, no matter how good they are, because if they were truly of the luxury standard most people expect when booking that standard, they would market themselves as such and be able to charge the prices that set them apart when it comes to booking a holiday and comparing the costs.

Tenerife is presenting a different image and does have luxury, but with a few noticeable exceptions they’re few and far between at the moment, and some more options will improve her image further.

What are manatees?
Manatees are marine mammals. They can grow to be 13 feet long and can weigh as much as 3,000 pounds. They are usually found in shallow water (about 6 feet deep). They mainly eat plants. The best thing about manatees is they are docile yet playful. If they don’t want to interact, they will swim on the bottom out of your reach. If they do want to play, they may nudge you like a puppy and then roll over when you rub their skin. Some people are even lucky enough to get face to face with a manatee for a kiss. Manatees are curious creatures so most people get to have amazing interactions with them.

When should you go?
Crystal River has manatees all year long but the best time to go is November through March. During those months, the manatee population swells to 400 or more. Manatees need warm water to survive so they migrate to the warm springs of Crystal River during the winter. It can be cold during the winter months in this part of Florida but the water is 72 degrees year round and your tour company will provide a wet suit. Honestly, once you see your first manatee you won’t be thinking about the weather.

What time of day should you go?

How to swim with manatees?
There are many companies that offer manatee tours. The three hour tour, including wet suit, snorkel, and goggles, will cost approximately $50 per person. These companies have guides that are knowledgeable about manatees and their behavior. They know the best places to look. All you have to do is get on their boat and enjoy the ride. Many of the companies will take underwater photos of your manatee experience and offer a CD for an additional fee. The tours do fill up so be sure to reserve a spot in advance.

Are there rules about interacting with manatees?
Yes. Manatees are on the endangered species list. People swimming with manatees must float at the surface of the water. This lets the manatees choose if they want to interact. When a manatee does interact with a swimmer, the swimmer can touch the manatee with one hand. No one is allowed to disturb a sleeping or feeding manatee.

There are certain places in the world that amaze us, magical places that will grab hold of our ever shortening attention spans and enthrall us. Bourkornine Mountain (Jebel Bourkornine) has twin peaks that rise over 1,000 metres and offer a challenge to serious hikers.

Sahara Desert

Start at Douz, the gateway to the Sahara, to trek in the desert. You can go by camel, horse, desert bike, or take a lazy but spectacular ride in a hot air balloon. Visit in November when the weather is cooler and enjoy the music, food and dancing of the International Festival of the Sahara.

See the gazelles, fennec foxes, jackals and Barbary sheep in the Jebil National Park, the only national park in the Sahara Desert. This protected region takes up most of the southern part of Tunisia and is just some 80 miles south of Douz. Visit the Berber troglodyte underground settlements at Matmata just east of Douz. This was the location for Luke Skywalker’s home in the film, “Star Wars”.

Woodlands

When you’ve seen enough sand, return to the north of the country for a visit to the mountains. El Feidja National Park lies in north-western Tunisia and is a vast woodland of cork oaks and traditional Mediterranean pines. This is easy walking country, but it takes some luck to spy a wild boar or Barbary deer, the local species that inhabit the forest. El Feidja lies in the most humid part of Tunisia, but there is an intoxicating freshness in the forest air. Walk by the remains of Berber fortresses, which used to guard this region.
